1685/Bach - Nosaj Thing
Witnessed the L.A. product Nosaj spin before Bassnectar and while his mellow tones may seem like a clash to the heavy Bassnectar Nosaj found a way to get the crowd dancing. This is a track from his last album Drift which I highly recommend start to finish, for any study sesh or car trip.

Chem - Heyoka
One of the latest from their last album Marklar, points for the South Park reference. Heyoka is one of the most creative sounds I've heard in a while and with older album names like Whomp Gland and Pineal Dub you know your in for a face full of fun.

Hot Boxing the Cockpit - Shlohmo
Impossible name to spell, and an impossibly cooler track name. Glitch has never sounded so smooth. Oh be sure to check out the music video for this one too if you have a second.

Paperwork & Cinnamon - ill-esha
In what I can only describe as 'chillstep' this song was instantly attractive to my ears. A much slower build up to the dub than most people are used to, I like.

BUG could be better described as chilled out groovy crunching beats.

Above all else I have become most interested in the Dutch house scene, it started with LBL, then Chuckie started blowing my face off, guys like Guetta and Sweedish House Mafia got involved in the sound and then this 20 something fellow named Afrojack comes on the scene. Critics might claim a lot of his sounds are too similar but if it aint broke don't fix it. I can never judge an artist by one track at a time, but rather on their body of work and especially on their live abilities. Unfortunately I've only had the pleasure of listening to live sets of his and have yet to have the chance to see him yet. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for EDC 2010 this year now that LBL has already committed I expect Afrojack to follow suit. Enough about the man and lets get to some of his tunes. You can find some of his classic's buried on here, but the new releases of Bangduck, Pon De Riverside, and Pacha on Acid are what I'm staying so stoked about.

"I think a lot of people are going to be surprised with the fact that there's a bunch of raw hip-hop records on there," according to A-Trak. "It's not all up tempo clubby stuff. I think a lot of people are going to be impressed with her growth also because when she made a lot of the records that people have heard by now, she was just starting to rap." Kid Sister's new album Ultraviolet is about to drop and there has already been a lot of hype for a long time. DJs have been hitting up this album and creating some great remixes. I saw Kid Sister live about a week ago and despite the unenthusiastic crowd her performance was quite good. There were some problems with audibility at the beginning, but that was fixed. She wasn't as lively as I had wished, but I'll blame that on the crowd. Check her out if you haven't already and remember to get the new Kid Sister CD on November 17th.

I came across this website called Rave Archive. It has a massive amount of classic mix tapes by an array of DJs. The DJs range from Flex to DJ Dan to Andy C and more. Also this website includes a section for old magazines from as far back as 92'. There is a forum section too in which some very knowledgeable people post about pretty much everything related to "the scene." Includes a lot of UK material, but also a good amount of US stuff. OK I lied, two things. Before I call it a night on this tear of posting I'd like to share two mixes that I've been bumping too nightly it seems, and for good reason.

First from my favorite blog for all things grimey, Squeegie Sounds, is a mix from resident DJ Brookah. Who knew Mizzou knew how to party? This past Wednesday Mizzou hosted their second flash rave in as many years. The concept was new to me, the music starts, people dance, and 30 min later its over. I'll be honest when I say I wasn't expecting much, I thought it would be a good opportunity to give the gloves a work out if nothing else, (pictured above) but DJ Z had other plans when he hit the turntables. Dropping Riverside, Moombah, Zombie Nation, Deadmau5's Moar Ghosts N' Whatever, and a lovely LMFAO remix of Boom Boom Pow I hadn't heard yet, it turned out to be an event that really made my week.

Something everyone should see

El Ten Eleven Live of course! The instrumental duo hailing from L.A. blessed Columbia with their presence this last Thursday and did not disappoint. Being a fan since their first self-titled album I was in disbelief when I found out they would be coming out here on their current U.S. tour.

Watching composer Kristian Dunn (the only word to describe his talent) own his instrument, a double neck guitar/bass, and Tim Fogarty smash the drums, or bass strings as seen in this picture, is something I will never forget. Their albums will have you jamming for hours, but too truly understand the depth of their skill you really have to see it done live.

Their current tour focuses on more of their new releases, with a much more electronic feel to it to which I had no complaints but was aching to hear some of the classics. The small albeit loud crowd @ Mojo's had them play 4 encores which included my personal favorites Lorge and My Only Swerving. It only added to the experience when I dove on top of Mr. Dunn's pick when he tossed, the greatest souvenir in my opinion. Most all of ya'll should know about this hip-hop duo that hails from Chi-town and big Detroit, but if you haven't The Cool Kids are aptly described by themselves as, "the new black version of the Beastie Boys". The Bake Sale cemented Mikey Rocks & Chuck Inglish as a group to watch for years to come. What separates these guys from the rest of the pack is their ability to preform & produce under any genre, as seen in their work with other artists such as Maroon 5 and one of my personal fav's The Bloody Beetroots. Even better yet The Cool Kids will be coming through Columbia on Nov, 6th with Kid Sister! Best $15 ticket in town if you ask me.

That's the title of the third release by the group hailing from Colorado, Pretty Lights! I had the pleasure of seeing these fine folks at EDC last year, as their name suggests the sights are as important as the sounds when they throw down. I'm a sucker for a well thought out light set to go along with the music and these guys certainly know how to make it mesh. Their sound is three parts jam band, a little STS9 feel, one part Glitch Mob with samples from the likes of Biggie and others. A perfect combination in this bloggers opinion.
