Although MTV gives hip-hop a bad name(in my opinion), the classics and underground artists give the genre much more justice. All these groups have used, as Del would say, exquisite fluency with rhyme and ingenuity. Even if your not big on hip hop I'd give these a chance.

I can't seem to settle on just one genre so heres another mix up. Gaslamp Killers new EP, Death Gate is a little different than what you would usually hear at one of his shows. Lacking some of the heavy dubstep loops, he incorporates much more sporadic, experimental beats into his new project.

If you're anywhere near LA tonight I highly suggest trying to get out to The Service Company's "Unofficial After Hardy." Don't let the name be decieving, this will be far from an alternative to Hard Summer. LA natives such as Nosaj Thing, and Tokimonsta will be in attendance. Accompanied by Low Limit, Daedelus, Jogger, Samiyam, and Baths as if the first two weren't enough incentive.

The new sound I've been fining for the past few months will be easily understood from the tunes below, but impossible to explain. What do Mimosa, Nosaj Thing, Heyoka, Shlohmo, BUG, ill-esha, and 4di all have in common? Well they're all a combination of Electronic Breakbeat genuis with a twist of easy listening even at times.
Follow the links and give em a listen.
Kinetic - Mimosa
After seeing Mimosa on my birthday I was hooked, if you haven't caught up on his sound yet then you've been missing out.
1685/Bach - Nosaj Thing
Witnessed the L.A. product Nosaj spin before Bassnectar and while his mellow tones may seem like a clash to the heavy Bassnectar Nosaj found a way to get the crowd dancing. This is a track from his last album Drift which I highly recommend start to finish, for any study sesh or car trip.
Chem - Heyoka
One of the latest from their last album Marklar, points for the South Park reference. Heyoka is one of the most creative sounds I've heard in a while and with older album names like Whomp Gland and Pineal Dub you know your in for a face full of fun.
Hot Boxing the Cockpit - Shlohmo
Impossible name to spell, and an impossibly cooler track name. Glitch has never sounded so smooth. Oh be sure to check out the music video for this one too if you have a second.
Paperwork & Cinnamon - ill-esha
In what I can only describe as 'chillstep' this song was instantly attractive to my ears. A much slower build up to the dub than most people are used to, I like.
20 Winks - BUG
BUG could be better described as chilled out groovy crunching beats.
Mighty Healthy (4di Remix) - Ghostface Killah
More heavy on the breakbeat 4di accompanied by some flame GFK lyrics makes for a nice combo.

This modern day jazz group doesn't fit into most genres you would expect. While there are incredible instrumental symphonies, the group adds electronic loops and hip hop tones to create an innovative new subgenre of their own.

Above all else I have become most interested in the Dutch house scene, it started with LBL, then Chuckie started blowing my face off, guys like Guetta and Sweedish House Mafia got involved in the sound and then this 20 something fellow named Afrojack comes on the scene. Critics might claim a lot of his sounds are too similar but if it aint broke don't fix it. I can never judge an artist by one track at a time, but rather on their body of work and especially on their live abilities. Unfortunately I've only had the pleasure of listening to live sets of his and have yet to have the chance to see him yet. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for EDC 2010 this year now that LBL has already committed I expect Afrojack to follow suit. Enough about the man and lets get to some of his tunes. You can find some of his classic's buried on here, but the new releases of Bangduck, Pon De Riverside, and Pacha on Acid are what I'm staying so stoked about.
Afrojack - Bangduck (Original Mix)
Afrojack - Pon De Riverside
Afrojack & The Party Squad - Check Die Beat (Original Mix)
Afrojack - Pacha On Acid (Original Mix)
Nadia Ali & Tocadisco - Better Run (Afrojack Remix)
Afrojack - In Your Face (Original Mix)
Afrojack - Guest Mix On Annie Mac (BBC Radio 1) (16-01-2010)
a sample of some thing's you may hear at EDC this summer if he commits.

This Dan 'the Automator' and Prince Paul collaboration has been the object of my obsession lately. Their albums include all-star musicians and rappers, often comedians as well, to satirize the lives of upper class society.

I just had the best birthday weekend of my life in St. Louis @ the Robert Orpheum Theatre. Eddie Halliwell although not as energetic as his set at EDC last year still brought the house down with an epic intro of Strobe and Uplifting Sounds throughout. For all those in attendance here's a classic hour long Eddie Halliwell that seems to have fallen off the internet.

The group Pretty Lights consists of a drummer Cory Eberhard, and DJ Derek Vincent Smith. The duo use popular vocal loops(and sometimes less known ones as well) to create digital sampling at its finest.

Gucci Mane is quite cliche as far as your typical drug and sex obsessive hip hop lyrics goes. The new remix album, however adds the necessary head bopping beats to break this mold.

Eliot Lipp has a pretty unique sound with his hip-hop electronic fusion. His close work with Prefuse 73, can easily be heard in his tracks. If you dig these, his large discography has a range of different dominant tones. From electro to hip hop there is something to please everyone.
